Camping Chip Dip in a Can

Our little family went camping last weekend and I decided it was time to cook something new over the camp fire.  So I collected a few medium sized metal tin cans.  I cleaned them out and then layered each with:

Black beans
Cheese
Salsa
Refried Beans
Cilantro
The possibilities are endless!

I then covered the bottom of each can with aluminum foil and the tops with a sandwich bag and rubber band (to avoid spilling while transporting in the cooler).   

Before placing the cans on the cooking rack I removed the plastic bags and rubber bands.  Then, I allowed each can to cook until the contents were heated through.  Before serving I removed the aluminum foil and wrapped a bandana around each can.

Every camper got their own can.  We served the dip with tortilla chips.  If desired, you could top each dip with sour cream, chives, and cracked pepper.  Enjoy and be careful!

What a fun idea to use with the squatty tuna or salmon cans during a grillin' out party so everyone can have their own individual container of cheese dip!

My sister and I tried this one and the cobbler in a can out last fall and loved it! Going camping this weekend and making both of them again. Easy and delicious after hiking all day. Thanks for the idea!
